Using AutoUpgrade, you can download patches for Oracle Exadata. It’s fast and convenient.
Get Those Patches
-
I use the latest version of AutoUpgrade.
wget https://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/otn_software/autoupgrade.jar -
I’ve already stored my MOS credentials in the AutoUpgrade keystore.
-
I create an AutoUpgrade config file:
global.global_log_dir=/home/oracle/autoupgrade/logs global.keystore=/home/oracle/autoupgrade/keystore global.download_folder=/home/oracle/patch-repo patch1.patch=EXAQFSDP:19,EXAPATCHMGR patch1.target_version=19 patch1.platform=LINUX.X64- I use the
EXAQFSDPkeyword to download the Quarterly Full Stack Download Patch (QFSDP) for Exadata systems. - I want to download patches for 19c.
- I also want to get the latest version of the patchmgr utility.
- I use the
-
I start AutoUpgrade in download mode:
java -jar autoupgrade.jar -patch \ -config get-patches.cfg \ -mode download -
AutoUpgrade now downloads the patches:

That’s it. Now I have everything I need to patch the Exadata system.
Notes
- The QFSDP contains patches for:
- Infrastructure
- ExadataStorageServer
- DBServerPatch
- ExadataDBNodeUpdate
- SunRackIIPDUMeteringUnitFirmware
- Database
- Database Oracle home
- Grid Infrastructure Oracle home
- OPatch
- OPlan
- Systems management
- Enterprise Manager OMS Release Update
- Enterprise Manager Agent Release Update
- Infrastructure
- Each QFSDP is quite large. Have at least 60 GB of free space for the download, plus additional space to extract it.
- You can also download the QFSDP for releases 21c and 26ai.
- You must also specify
target_versionin the config file, although AutoUpgrade doesn’t use it for Exadata patches. That requirement will be removed in a later version of AutoUpgrade.
How to Extract the QFSDP
Here’s how to extract the QFSDP. I’m using QUARTERLY FULL STACK DOWNLOAD PATCH FOR EXADATA (JUL2026 – 19.32) as an example.
- The QFSDP comes in 10 zip files. Extract all of them:
mkdir -p p39619107 for i in {1..10}; do unzip -q "p39619107_190000_Linux-x86-64_${i}of10.zip" -d p39619107 || break done - Now you have 10 parts of a split tar archive. Combine and extract them:
cd p39619107 cat *.tar.* | tar -xvf - - You now have all the patches extracted and ready for patching.
That’s It
AutoUpgrade now belongs in your Exadata patching runbook. Regardless of how you patch your system, AutoUpgrade can take care of getting the patches.
This enhancement came directly from customer feedback. What should we add next?
Happy patching!
One runbook detail that sits next to the download itself: when the jump host keeps more than one quarter for rollback, keep each extract tree named after its ARU number the way your
mkdir -p p39619107step already does, and pointglobal.download_folderat a parent that holds several of those trees. A folder literally calledlatestorcurrentis how patchmgr gets last quarter’s stack on a rack that was meant for JUL2026. The QFSDP is one ARU bundle for storage cells, DB nodes, PDU firmware and EM together, so a mis-pointed extract is a whole-rack mistake, not a single-home one.On “what should we add next”: a free-space preflight on
download_folderbefore-mode downloadwould save a failed 10-zip pull. Sixty GB for the download plus room to extract means the check has to count whatever olderpNNNNNNNN/trees are still sitting beside the new one.LikeLike
I’m not sure I fully understand your request. Feel free to elaborate and send me the details in e-mail (daniel.overby.hansen (a) oracle.com).
Thanks,
