Oracle Database 23ai Is Here – Time to Sharpen Multitenant Skills

Last week Oracle announced the release of Oracle Database 23ai with many significant enhancements. It is available in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure but according to Release Schedule of Current Database Releases (Doc ID 742060.1) other platforms are following soon.

One important thing about Oracle Database 23ai is that it only supports the multitenant architecture. Once you upgrade beyond Oracle Database 19c, you must also convert your database to a pluggable database.

To give you the best possible starting point for the multitenant migration, our team has prepared two webinars about the multitenant architecture. Actually, we planned on just one. Still, we have so many things to share that we decided to make two webinars. When product managers get a chance to talk, they talk a lot!

    1. Hi Jan,

Thanks for letting me know. That’s an error. Our event team is working hard on bringing it back. Try again tomorrow or wednesday. It’s virtual, so we have unlimited seating :)

      Thanks,
      Daniel

  1. Hello Daniel,

Very nice article. We are trying to test how 23AI is behaving so that we can adapt our automation scripts. In our test environment we created Two CDBs one with Management policy “AUTOMATIC” and other with “RANK”. The documentation says that with RANK policy, we can set carinality for the PDB service like “singleton” or “uniform”, but we besides that we also see cardinality for a PDB, which can be from 1 to the number of nodes in the cluster. But how would they work together.

Also with management policy “automatic” we have preferred and available options for the PDB service. But we noticed that when a CDB is restarted, the PDB opens on all the instances irrespective of the instances marked as preferred or available. And the pdb service also starts on the instance which comes up first even it is not a preferred instance. We did raise an SR, but thought of asking here as well to get your perspective.

    Thanks & Regards,

    1. Hi Sreedhar,
Thanks for asking those good questions. Unfortunately, it’s slightly beyond my “comfort zone”, so I don’t have an answer. Please keep working with support on this one.
      Regards,
      Daniel
